SHANK
YOU VBC
Shank You
Volleyball club is a local club that is registered as a
member of the Hoosier Region Volleyball Association of
USA Volleyball. The Hoosier Region then registers our
members as amateur athletes with USA Volleyball of the
U.S. Olympic Committee. Our philosophy is that each
player will practice and play to enhance her skills as a
volleyball team player. Individual coaches for each
team will stress not only volleyball skills, but also
leadership and team participation skills.
WHO PARTICIPATES IN SHANK YOU?
Last season
approximately 400 girls played on 40 teams under Shank
You VBC. There are opportunities in Shank You VBC for
players ranging from 3rd through 12th grade.
WHAT IS A CLUB
TEAM?
A Club team is
a team that participates in the Northern Indiana Power
League. This club is comprised of other northern
Indiana clubs, and competitions are held within a 2 hour
driving distance. Competitions are on Sundays only
with one or two competitions per month. The other
Sundays will be dedicated to practices. Mishawaka,
Michigan City, Valpo, and Merrillville are some of the
locations where these competitions may take place. The
average season for a club team will be from mid January
to late March or early April. Club teams will have the
opportunity to play in 5 tournaments.
WHERE DOES SHANK YOU PRACTICE?
Club practices will be
on Saturdays, Sundays or when coaches can get gym time.
Club teams only have to practice or play in the power
league one time a week. If a coach chooses to
practice more then once a week that practice must be
open to all Shank You Players. Travel teams
may practice more than once a week at varying sites.
HOW
MANY PLAYERS ARE ON A TEAM?
The number of
players on a team is kept to a maximum of ten to twelve
players. This number may be slightly different
for some of the younger age groups and travel teams.
Shank You tries to keep the number of players down to
insure that each player receives as much personal
instruction as possible.
CONFLICTS WITH A SCHOOL SPORT?
Shank You feels that school activities should come
first. There should not be any conflicts with players on
a club team. This is because club teams will play on
Sundays. Most conflicts arise with the players on travel
teams. Players wishing to play on a travel team should
check their sport schedules and determine if traveling
is possible. RESOLVING CONFLICTS
IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE PLAYERS AND HER PARENTS.
WHO ARE SHANK YOU
COACHES?
Staff coaches include members of area high
school coaching staffs. All coaches have coaching
experience and/or playing experience, most at a high
school level or higher. Some of the young teams
have parents or high school players as coaches.
